FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What time is breakfast? Breakfast is served in the dining room from 8:00 am until 9:00 a.m. Coffee is generally available by 7:15 a.m. Breakfast is served community style, which means that there may be other guests at your table. If you prefer a private table please let us know. What is served for breakfast? The breakfast menu changes daily. We always plan warm breakfast bread, fresh fruit, followed by an egg dish, a non-egg dish and generally a meat side. If you have allergies, dietary restrictions or some strong dislikes please let us know so that we do not incorporate that into your breakfast. Usually there is enough variety that everyone is able to enjoy a satisfying breakfast. We truly want everyone to enjoy the breakfast experience so please let us know of any special requests. The custom of giving gratuity to those rendering personal service to travelers, diners and vacationers is now firmly established, regardless of whether we, as operators or guests approve of the practice. It should be realized that staff relies on a portion of its compensation from guest gratuity. We are not able to accommodate a full breakfast in bed. We can provide warm bread, fruit and coffee at an agreed upon time between 8 and 9 a.m. There is a $20 charge for this service. We can set up a table in a private dining room for guests who would like to be totally alone. Well-mannered children are always welcome at the Bernerhof. We generally place families with very young children in a separate dining room for breakfast. We ask parents to keep their children in their rooms and as quiet as possible until 7:30 a.m. or after. Children must be under parental supervision at all times.
We appreciate reservations, this assures our guests will get premium tables and also helps us with staffing and planning.
Yes, we can accumulate all dining charges to your room.
What time is Check In?Your room is generally ready at 2:00 pm. If you would like an early check in please ask at time of reservation and we will try to accommodate you. Of course, it is not always easy to predict what time you plan to arrive but we always ask when you make your reservation. We try to be at the Inn when you arrive so that we can greet you, tour the inn and bring you to your room. This is especially important when the restaurant is closed. If plans change and we miss each other, we have a “Late Arrival” letter that we post with directions to your room. We apologize if we were not here personally to greet you.We ask that you check out by 10 a.m. We are often able to accommodate a later check out. If you need a later time, please speak with the front desk as soon as possible. If you do not make arrangement and check out after 11 a.m., we do charge an additional $35 unless arrangements were made in advance.
This is a classic Victorian inn circa 1880, it comes complete with squeaky floors, beautiful antiques and a challenging heating system. In the winter we try to accommodate all of our guests heating issues. If you find yourself too chilly please use the portable heater in your room. These are very safe as they have their own fuses. If you are very warm please do not hesitate to crack your window to provide the necessary relief. This is rarely a problem but sometimes the winter is not as cold or much colder than we may expect. If you have any questions in regard to the heat let us know. We will be happy to assist.
Housekeeping is provided daily between 8 a.m. and 12 noon. Evelyn Furlong gives the inn TLC and it really makes the difference. Gratuities are not included in your bill, but are very much appreciated. Many guests ask what they should leave; 3% of your room rate is a good rule of thumb. What if I don’t want my room chambered? This is a tough one. Evelyn feels strongly that the Jacuzzi tubs and rooms need to be cleaned daily. Skipping cleaning only makes the final cleaning at check out more difficult. If you absolutely object to her service because you are staying in, please let us know and we will respect your request. The Bernerhof Inn is entirely non-smoking. If you do smoke you will find ashtrays provided on the front porch. There is a $150 charge per night to guests who do smoke in their rooms. Our fire insurance policy prohibits candle burning. There is a $50 charge for any cleaning associated with wax spills. We have provided lights with rheostats above all spa tubs to offer softer lighting. Today many things are labeled “flushable” – this might be all right in the CITY but up here with our septic system, we ask that you do not flush ANYTHING down the toilet except toilet paper. We have provided small paper bags to help with this. Thank you for your consideration. We are in the heart of the Mount Washington Valley, nature’s playground. We are always happy to suggest day trips, activities, great shopping finds, lunch spots, etc. Please ask for tips on the area, we are always glad to suggest our favorites! We carry discount tickets and passes to many area events, i.e. Ski tickets, waterslide, mini golf, etc. In-room phones are designed for outgoing calls only. Local calls are free. We have calling cards for $8.00 at the front desk. Incoming calls for our guests will be taken and staff will deliver the messages as soon as possible. The inn phone is staffed from 8-8 Sunday-Thursday and until 10 on the weekend. Emergency calls outside these hours need to be directed to the local police for assistance. The “house phone” is only one line. Only one guest at a time can use the phone. You will get a busy signal if the phone is in use. If your call cannot wait, you can use the office phone at the front desk. These amenities are available to all of our guests next door at our sister property The Red Apple Inn. Follow the lighted garden path through the pines, just a moment’s stroll. The pool is seasonal from June – September 9a.m. to 8 p.m., the game room is open nightly until 10p.m. during summer and vacation times. It closes at 8 pm during “off season”. I am sorry we do not allow dogs. Willow, our inn dog, does “hang out” here when June is on duty. Willow is a Golden Doodle, a non-shedding and non-allergenic breed. She is not allowed in the rooms. If you have an aversion to dogs please let us know and we will be sure to keep her confined. In case of an emergency late at night (after 10 pm), please call us at home 603-383-6236. George and June Phillips are the innkeepers and reside next door at our sister property The Red Apple Inn. |
