New Class Starting
Mount Washington Valley Arts Association in North Conway, New Hampshire Presents: A Crash Course in Portrait Oil Painting by Carol Phenix. In this course you will complete at least one portrait based on a photo reference. You will follow the classical method utilizing a preliminary charcoal sketch, followed by underpainting as a foundation for the final layers. This class is for students who have some experience with drawing and painting. This is a 6 week course beginning on
Tuesday October 11th from 1:30 until 3:30pm.
Cost for members is $120.00, non members $145.00
Scholarships are available for any of our classes.
Artist of the Month
A local non-profit organization has invited juried artists of the association to participate in an artist of the month exhibit at their location beginning in November. You should have enough work to display on 40 linear feet of wall space. If you would be interested in exhibiting, please give the office a call.
Exhibits
The Opening Reception of our fall art gallery exhibit “From My Window” is Friday evening from 5:30 – 7:00pm. Meet the artists, preview the exhibit and enjoy light refreshments. The exhibit features over 50 original images of contemporary White Mountain Art and displays works by many of our juried artist members. Fall images of our world are depicted in watercolor, oil, pastel, fiber art, photography and more.
Matted prints will also be available at the exhibit which runs from October 7th through November 25th. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00am until 3:00pm and Saturdays from 10:00am until 2:00pm.
Attention Life Drawing Artists
The next life drawing session will be on Monday night October 10th and will resume on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month with a model for each session.
Annual Meeting

Mt. Washington Valley offers ideal biking terrain for those looking for gentle back roads taking them through covered bridges and past farms and meadows to extreme off-road slick track. From the seat of a car, train, bike or chairlift, there’s more than one way to peep a leaf in Mt Washington Valley, NH
North Conway, NH - Hail to the “peep” this fall with a visit to Mt. Washington Valley, located in the heart of New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Offering not only spectacular foliage but a wide variety of ways to enjoy the harvest hues of Mother Nature’s artistry, there’s plenty of great ways to enjoy Mt. Washington Valley’s fall foliage throughout this autumn. Here are some conventional and a few unconventional suggestions for viewing Mt. Washington Valley’s fall foliage.
From The Seat of a Train:
Mt. Washington Valley offers a host of train rides. Book your seat on the Cog Railway and take this famous train ride to the top of Mt. Washington or enjoy fabulous scenic tours to Conway, Bartlett and Crawford Notch on the Conway Scenic Railroad.
From the Top of the Notch:
Scenic drives through Crawford Notch to Bretton Woods or Pinkham Notch to Gorham offer everything from ridge top vistas and rock formations to moose sightings. Be sure to have the camera ready because around every turn there’s a new surprise.
From the Moose Van:
Take a ride along the picturesque Androscoggin River and into the 13-Mile Woods area or travel into “Moose Alleys” in other parts of the Valley on a choice of spectacular and scenic Moose/Wildlife Tour. As many as 23 moose have been spotted in one tour. Tours also includes folklore and historic features of the region. Choose from three different tours including Dan’s Scenic Tours, Gorham Moose Tours and MWV Moose Bus Tours/Moose Safari.
From a Gondola, Ski Lift or Zipline:
Fall is the time of year to take in the spectacular vistas from Mt. Washington Valley’s mountaintops. For those who’d rather not hike up, take the lift. A scenic ride on the Wildcat Gondola or the high-speed quad at Attitash or Bretton Woods offers fabulous picnic grounds and views into Mt. Washington’s Tuckerman Ravine or over the whole Bartlett region. For a truly “zipalicious” view of foliage, try the zip line at Wildcat, the Canopy Tour at Bretton Woods, high ropes courses at Monkey Trunks.
From the Pumpkin People or Scarecrow Tour:
Each year, a highlight of foliage season is “The Return of the Pumpkin People”. Businesses throughout Mt. Washington Valley create whimsical displays of pumpkin people; the only requirement being that the heads are made of pumpkins. Take a self-guided tour of the pumpkin people and vote on your favorite from Oct 1-23, 2010. On Saturday, Oct 2, 2010, dozens of scary, pretty, and just plain fun scarecrows competing for more than $2500 in prize money will debut as you hunt for fall bargains at Settlers’ Green Outlet Village.
